‘TRANSITION’ (200cm x 350cm)

Stourbridge Art and Design College Public Art Commission

September 2011

A vitreous enamel wall mural adorns the reception foyer of the new art and design college in Stourbridge, West Midlands

The commissioned piece ‘Transition’ incorporates archival references with future aspirations for the new college. The abstract references draw on the site’s local history, from the Round Oak Steel Works, once the heart of Stourbridge, to the Stourbridge Canal, the

Great Western Railway and as far back as medieval times.

The silhouette of the building is also incorporated into the piece, with reference to achievement, attainment, hopes and dreams.

The piece is made up of three large panels fabricated by A.J. Wells, Architectural Enamelers and painted by Traxler.
